Constitutional Cases

Constitutional law refers to rights carved out in the federal and state constitutions. The majority of this body of law has developed from state and federal supreme court rulings, which interpret their respective constitutions and ensure that the laws passed by the legislature do not violate constitutional limits.

First, it is a source of law in and of itself; after all, it's the Constitution, “the supreme Law of the Land.” Second, the Constitution is a source of law because it creates and allocates power between the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of the federal government, which are other sources of law.
